Helena Bonham Carter's adventure on *The White Lotus* was shorter than expected.

HBO told ** in a statement late Friday that the actress' part on the Emmy-winning series simply wasn't working out.

"With filming just underway on Season 4 of *The White Lotus*, it had become apparent that the character which Mike White created for Helena Bonham Carter did not align once on set," a spokesperson said. "The role has subsequently been rethought, is being rewritten and will be recast in the coming weeks. HBO, the producers and Mike White are saddened that they won't get to work with her, but remain ardent fans and very much hope to work with the legendary actress on another project soon."

The British actress had joined the anthology series, each season of which features a mostly new cast, in January.

As EW reported then, Chris Messina and Marissa Long will be part of the new season, which will take place in France. Actors Steve Coogan, Caleb Jonte Edwards, Alexander Ludwig, and AJ Michalka will join them in the fourth season. Sandra Bernhard, Vincent Cassel, Caleb Jonte Edwards, Ari Graynor, Kumail Nanjiani, and Nadia Tereszkiewicz will also be there.

The series is known for using both young actors and veterans, which would have included Carter, in its casts.

Carter is celebrated for her work in award-winning films, such as 2007's *Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street*, 2010's *The King's Speech*, and, in 2012, *Les Misérables*.
