Sources close to the Palace indicate that this type of independent international tour is exactly what the late Queen Elizabeth II feared when the couple stepped back from royal duties. One well-placed source, who was close to the late Queen, stated with “utmost certainty” that this scenario is what she tried to prevent. The source noted that the Queen wanted to ensure no “half-in, half-out” royal brand could exist.

Another insider described the situation as “clearly irritating.” However, they added that the Royal Family has decided to “roll with the punches” to keep the institution moving forward. Despite the frustration, there are currently no plans for King Charles to strip the couple of their titles, as the Palace reportedly fears this would only fuel the Sussexes’ “sense of injustice.”
